Another great weekend in Bishop Hill is planned!!!
Come to a free Viking Encampment this weekend (August 13-14) in Bishop Hill, where everyday scenes from the Viking Age will be shown. The Encampment will feature costumed interpreters in an accurate Anglo-Scandinavian encampment of the 11th century. Textiles, gaming, woodworking, book-binding, moneying, and many more activities from this time period will be demonstrated from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The encampment is by Micel Folcland—the local branch of Regia Anglorum. This event is organized by the Bishop Hill Heritage Association.
Also during this weekend, representatives of the Illinois Association of Wheat Weavers will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate various plaiting methods used to transform wheat straw into delicate works of art. Walk-ins are welcome and will be guided by experienced members of the IAWW in making a woven star. Recent works will also be on display and available for purchase. The IAWW seeks to further develop this craft, teach future generations of its heritage, and build a bond with wheat weavers throughout the world.
On Saturday, August 13th from 1-4 p.m., the BHHA will be hosting its annual Pie in the Park Fundraiser. Please save room after lunch for their delicious pie and ice cream.
Finally, make it a complete weekend by stopping at the Henry County Historical Museum and view the many historical artifacts from Henry County that are on display. You won't be disappointed.
